23/01 Thursday. Class 6

Hello
Today there were only two students in the class. Hope, Sonia will get better.

We´ve been practising saying the dates:
When´s your birthday? - It´s on September 15th. (on the fifteenth of September).
When is Halloween? - It´s on October 31st.

We aslo learnt today a new grammar issue - Past Simple of the verb "to be":
I was                                       we were
you were                                 you were
he, she, it was                         they were

We were talking about famous people:
Who was Leonardo da Vinci? - He was a famous painter.
When was he born? - He was born in 1452.
Where was he born? - He was born in Italy.

When were you born? - I was born in 1976.

Pronunciation of was/were, wasn´t/weren´t in stressed or unstressed position:
Leonardo da Vinci was a musician. (wz)
No, he wasn´t. (woznt)
He was a painter. (wz)

Beethoven and Mozart were writers. (w)
No, there weren´t. (wₔ:nt)
They were musicians. (w)

Practise here the use of the verb "to be".

Watch a short video and pay attention to how "was" and "were" are used in the conversation.

P.S. Were you good at school? Hmmm, I was quite good at school, but not the best.
Watch a short video and pay attention to what people are saying.

Your homework is to do a Brainteaser in your copies, to practise making and answering questions and to read a text about the past of the famous people.
