21/01 Tuesday. Class 5

Hello!
Today we started a new topic "Past events". We´re going to talk about the past.
We learnt how to say the years:
1467 - fourteen sixty seven
1809 - eighteen oh nine
1700 - seventeen hundred, but
2001 - twenty oh one, but more often we say "two thousand and one".

We usually use preposition "in" with the year: in 1467.
Saying the date is a bit different from writing it: September 17, 2007 (the seventeenth of September, two thousand and seven).
When we say the date we use the ordinal numbers:
one - the first
two - the second
three - the third
four - the fourth
five - the fifth etc.

To practise saying the dates see a link here. (click on the date to listen to the speaker).
Watch also a video here with full explanations.

Your homework is to practise saying the dates and answer the questions from the copy.

16/01 Thursday. Class 4

Hello again!
Today we had one more new student - Adrian, welcome to our group!

So, we played a board game and revised a lot of vocabulary we´ve learnt so far.
Also we learnt some grammar - should and shouldn´t to give advice:
You should peel the onions under the running water.
You shouldn´t put salt on the meat before grilling it.

We read a text and learnt new phrases (eggs crack, share my secrets, eyes water, run the restaurant, save time, give advice etc.).

You also gave very useful and interesting advice for cooking!

When we´re talking about food we can´t avoid talking about the restaurants. We usually use can/could and would to speak politely:
Can I have a menu, please?
Would you like some dessert?
Could I get a bill, please?

Watch a video and pracrise new phrases - At the Restaurant.
Here are some extra expressions on this topic - Restaurant Vocabulary.

Homework: revise the topic and prepare for the test.
