17-19/12 Tuesday-Thursday. Classes 25-26

Hello!
I´ve decided to join two classes into one blog entry. We´ve started a new topic "Food and drinks" and learnt some new vocabulary - food and drinks (check out for online activities here.)

We learnt that the majority of nouns for food and drinks are uncountable (milk, meat, juice, water, cheese, chicken etc.):
an orange, an apple, a candy
some milk, some beef, some cheese

To make uncontable nouns countable we can use special words "containers" - a bar, a loaf, a packet, a jar, a bottle, a tin, a can etc. For extra practice - do the activities here.

We talked about Star Signs and their favourite food. Is there any relation? Here´s a funny link (a bit difficult, but pictures are fun). Read at home the text again and write your sign menu.

We revised as well some phrases to talk about the preferences:
I love.../I like.../I hate .../I can´t stand ...
I prefer ... to ...

I wish you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Have some rest and see you refreshed next trimester!

12/12 Thursday. Class 24

Hello!

Today we´ve been talking about different types of houses (cottage, flat, villa, mansion, detached house, semi-detached, terraced, bungalow etc.).
We learnt some adjectives to describe them (modern, spacious, cheap, expensive, luxurious, quiet, busy, (un)attractive).
Watch a video about different types of houses and learn new words - Types of Houses. Types of Houses.

Also we read a text about "an unusual house" - Queen  Mary´s Doll´s House. If you´re interested in finding out more about it - watch a video. You can also make a virtual visit to the house - Royal Collection.

Your homework is to read an anouncement about a Home Exchange, to complete the sentences and to prepare the questions you would ask if you wanted to exhcange your house with someone else.

Here´s a link to practise the vocabulary "Bedroom and Bathroom". Do the exercises and learn new words. Watch a video and learn new words.

child - children, man - men
deer -deer, sheep - sheep
You can practise plurals here.  Do the exercises and pay attention to regular and irregular nouns.

Your homework is to study a copy with plurals and do the exercises; to learn new vocabulary for bedroom and bathroom and to write a description of your bedroom.

05/12 Thursday. Class 22

Hello! Looking forward to a long weekend? Me too!

So, today we´ve started a new topic "My home". We´ve learnt a lot of new words (living room, dining room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom) and also a lot of things we can find in the rooms (sofa, armchair, chair, lamps, CD player, curtains, bookcase etc.)

To say that things are somewhere we use "there is a(n).../there are some...":
There´s a sofa in the living room.
There are a lot of pictures on the walls.

And of course to say where things are we use the prepositions of place (under, between, in, on, in frotn of etc.).

Here´s a video "In the Living room". Watch it, repeat and learn the new words.

Also here´s the link to a webpage with lots of different activities on the topic "House". Choose the exercises you like and practise the vocabulary.

Hey, you have a lot of work to do on the weekend:)

03/12 Tuesday. Class 21

Hello! How´re you doing? (=How are you?)

Today we´ve been practising a lot asking for directions and giving directions. We´ve learnt lots of useful exressions (turn right/left, go along the road/go staight on/walk along/down, take the first/second turning on your right/left, it´s on the right/left, turn around, on the corner etc.).
Can you tell me the way to ... ?
How do/can I get to ...?
Where is ... ?
Is there a ... near here?

Now you definitely can travel abroad and when you´re lost you know how to ask your way!

Here´re the links to some extra activities - Link 1 and Link 2 in case you would like to practise!

Next class we´re starting a new topic, so your homework is to revise  the prepositions of place and to do the vocabulary exercise.
